400 tonnes of honey is expected to be harvested this year.
This was revealed by the President of Beekeeping Association, Abdul Shaheed during the 2015 Beekeeping Symposium and Annual General Meeting the Xavier College in Ba yesterday.
Shaheed said last year 340 tonnes was harvested but this year they expect to harvest more as the stakeholders and the donors such as the United Nations, European Union are working together with the association to upgrade the sector.
Shaheed highlighted the beekeepers, especially youths are encouraged to get more involved in this field as it is a good source of income.
He stressed that the government has given $100,000 to upgrade the beekeeping sector .
There are 13,100 bee hives which is being looked after by 1,500 bee keepers around the country.
