40 prefects from 10 schools around Suva are taking part in a three day Restorative Justice for students workshop organized by Pacific Centre for Peace Building.
Suva Muslim College student Tailasa Vue said the workshop has helped him in understanding sensitive issues such as bullying and how he as a school prefect can control this.
Vue said by using skills taught in the workshop such as proper way of counseling and resolving issues rather than punishing students straight away, many students who make mistakes in schools are given another chance rather than being suspended or expelled.
Workshop Coordinator Veni Cakau said the increasing rates of school drop outs and young adults being involved in criminal activities are some of the reasons for organizing the workshop.
The three days’ workshop will end tomorrow.
