Four businesses and three residential flats in a double storey concrete and wooden structured building in Tavua town was destroyed in an early morning fire yesterday.
Firefighters rescued four people who were trapped inside their flats with the use of ladders from the fire trucks.
Goundar’s hardware shop, Urman’s furniture shop, two clothing shops situated on the ground floor and three residential flats on the top floor were destroyed in the fire.
Firefighters managed to prevent the fire from spreading to the nearby properties.
The National Fire Authority received a call at 1.37am and upon arrival at 1.39am firefighters saw the double storey building on fire.
NFA investigations are underway to determine the cause of the fire.
