A contract worth $370,422 was signed today by the Minister for Fisheries Semi Koroilavesau and the Japanese Ambassador to Fiji Masahiro Omura for the assistance of Naduruloulou Research Station.
The funds will be used for aquaculture equipment and heavy machinery for Tilapia fish eggs production.
The Minister says there are hundreds of Tilapia farmers in Fiji and the Ministry will now be able to supply them with more Tilapia eggs.
Koroilavesau says an increase in the production of Tilapia will provide food security for the farmers as well as increase their income.
The Japanese Ambassador to Fiji says the Naduruloulou Research Station has become a leading aquaculture research institute in the South Pacific, distributing one million Tilapia eggs annually to the 500 Tilapia farmers.
This grant was made possible through the Japanese Government’s Grant Assistance for Grassroots Human Security Projects Programme.
