A 36-year-old man convicted of raping a 15-year-old boy has been sentenced to 12 years imprisonment by High Court Judge Justice Thushara Rajasinghe.
The incident happened in 2013.
While sentencing the man, Justice Rajasinghe said rape of children is undoubtedly a very serious crime which adversely affects the victim’s life physically and emotionally.
Justice Rajasinghe says it is a responsibility of the court to deter offenders or other persons from committing offences of the same or similar nature and protect the community from offenders of this nature.
The man has been given a non-parole period of nine years.
