35,645 Traffic Infringement Notices have been issued by the Fiji Police Force so far this year.
Director of Traffic SSP Mahesh Mishra highlights that 25,790 traffic infringement notices were issued for speeding, 1,042 for careless driving, 1,005 for drinking and driving and 7,852 for other offences.
He says 382 traffic infringement notices were issued for not wearing seat belts, 199 for driving without license, 194 for illegal operations while 186 were issued for carrying excess passengers.
Meanwhile, there are 49 fatalities recorded so far this year compared to 61 for the same period last year.
SSP Mishra says this does not include the two fatalities from over the weekend.
He says they are waiting for the post mortem results.
Speeding remains the major killer on our roads which is 21, 10 accidents were because of pedestrians at fault, improper overtaking was four and drinking and driving was three.
