A total of 33 women from the across the country have today begun their 3 day Sewing Skills & Sewing Machine Maintenance Training of Trainers Workshop.
While speaking at the opening of the Train the Trainers Workshop, Minister for Women, Mereseini Vuniwaqa says the program is the first of it’s kind that the Ministry of Women is facilitating.
She adds the training is crucial as there is only one trainer with the Ministry who has been carrying out maintenance works on sewing machines throughout the country.
Vuniwaqa says the women that have been selected to be part of the workshop are skillful sewers adding that the workshop will be a refresher course and will also up-skill the participants to fix and maintain sewing machines in their various divisions.
The Minister for Women also highlighted that three components of the Workshop that includes Sewing Skills, Sewing Machine Maintenance and Repairing and Pattern Drafting.
Meanwhile 55 year old, Timaima Pita who is the facilitator at the Workshop says she has been working to maintain sewing machines across the country since 2014.
She says that over the past three years more than 2,000 women from rural and maritime areas have been trained to use, repair and maintain sewing machines.
The training will conclude this Friday.
