$3.2 million will be used to construct the Naboro Landfill Stage Two Cell Two to expand its capacity in order to manage the solid waste.
This was highlighted by the Minister for Infrastructure Parveen Bala when SODELPA MP Kiniviliame Kiliraki asked the minister on the progress of the waste management system project for which 4.2 million was allocated in the 2016/2017 budget.
Bala says the government tender board has approved HG Leach for the construction of Cell Two and the works will commence soon.
NFP MP Parmod Chand then asked the minister if there are sustainable approaches such as recycling for waste management.
In response Bala said that there are programmes in place for recycling and all municipal councils are doing the recycling project.
He says they have also included the schools to do recycling.
Bala says they are looking at two dump sites in the Western Division and in Naboro to see how they can generate energy out of waste.
