3,140 people living with disabilities are enjoying free bus services and a concession of 20% on taxi fares since 2011 while 56,739 senior citizens who are 60 years and over have been paying half bus fare.
People living with permanent disabilities have to provide a card which is validated by the Fiji Council for Disabled Persons in order to get these benefits.
The Ministry of Poverty Alleviation says bus services are free and card holders only need to pay 80% of their taxi fare.
Fiji Taxi Association General Secretary Rishi Ram says the card needs to have ‘Taxi Also’ stated on it, as many cards only have just the bus concession specified.
Ram says the destination has to be within a 20 kilometre radius.
