30 women who are part of a workshop organised by Fiji Fashion Week are learning about another avenue earn an income through fashion and weaving.
The workshop that was held at FNU National Training and Productivity Centre in Nabua is being facilitated by New Zealand fibre artist and designer Shona Tawhiao.
Tawhiao’s structural, intricately‑woven flax creations have graced the Metropolitan Museum of Art and the catwalks of New York Fashion Week.
She says is part of her contribution in trying to keep Maori culture alive and this is what she is advocating during this workshop.
Tawhiao urges upcoming designers who will be part of this year’s Fiji Fashion Week to keep a bit of their culture in their designs so that it's more unique and stands out from the others.
The mother of three will be showcasing some of her designs with a theme of Maori War and Battle this Saturday.
Fiji Fashion Week’s Cruise Resort Show will be held on Friday night while the Luxe Resort Show will be held on Saturday night at 7pm at the FMF Gymnasium.
