The 30 ambulances that will be donated by the Chinese government to the Ministry of Health are yet to be handed over to the Ministry.
Minister for Health Rosy Akbar says she does not know when the ambulances will be given to the Ministry adding that they will be officially handed over to the Prime Minister by the Chinese government.
Fijivillage has sent questions to Permanent Secretary at the Office of the Prime Minister Yogesh Karan on when the Chinese government will officially hand over the vehicles to Fiji.
Akbar says they have made an unconfirmed list of where the ambulances will be stationed.
She says it will be based on the need at a particular station.
Akbar says given the dense population of the Suva to Nausori corridor, a few ambulances will be placed in these areas.
She says the need for ambulances is much higher in these areas than the less populated areas.
Meanwhile, Saint John’s Ambulance Manager Lloyd Ahteck says they have 2 ambulances that are servicing Fiji wide.
He says 2 other ambulances are in the garage.
The National Fire Authority has confirmed they have 9 ambulances out of which one is currently not in operation after an accident.
The NFA has one ambulance each in Nausori, Sigatoka, Ba, Labasa, Valelevu, Korovou, Korolevu and 2 ambulances in Suva.
The ambulance in Korovou is out of operation.
