A 3-year-old boy has lost his life after he slipped into a drain in Lovoni Village in Ovalau yesterday morning.
It is alleged that the boy tried to jump over the drain but slipped and hit the drain.
He was rushed to the Bureta Health Center where he was pronounced dead.
Police are urging parents and guardians to closely monitor their children as this is not a time to be playing in flooded areas.
Mariners are also urged to not make unnecessary travel particularly on small boats to avoid tragedy.
Police say by doing so, people do not only put their lives in danger but that of others who will have to conduct the search and rescue operations.
People can call the Police National Command Center on 9905 296 if they need assistance.
