Three men have been jailed for an aggravated robbery case in 2014 which saw $6,000 worth of items robbed and a Canadian national raped.

Pita Natekuru, Ilaitia Nalawa and Jale Fatiaki robbed laptops, cigarettes, foreign currency and other items on the 10th of March in 2014.

It was also heard in court that Natekuru threatened the lady victim and dragged her to the bathroom and raped her.

The two victims of the robberies were Canadian nationals.

In his sentence, Justice Aruna Aluthge said the two Canadian nationals were on holiday in Fiji at Star Fish Villa in Volivoli when the three men secretly planned to rob them of their belongings.

When the victims were watching television, they forced open a window and entered the villa in a horrific night time invasion

They were armed with offensive weapons and frightened and threatened the tourists in a ruthless manner.

Pita Natekuru has been sentenced to 15 years’ imprisonment with a non‑parole period of 12 years.

Ilaitia Nalawa has been sentenced to 9 years and 6 months imprisonment with a non‑parole period of 8 years. Nalawa is also currently facing a jail sentenced of 18 years imprisonment for raping a 9‑year‑old girl in Nakasi in 2015.

Jale Fatiaki has been sentenced to 9 years imprisonment with a non‑parole period of 7 years.
