Three men are in custody for allegedly using cheques which were stolen during a burglary case at the Millennium Apparel Ltd sometime between the 20th and 21st of July, 2015.
Chief of Intelligence and Investigations, ACP Biu Matavou says that it is alleged a cheque book was stolen and on a few occasions' cheques from the stolen book surfaced whereby stop payments were made to the bank.
He says that while some leads were explored, Police were not able to make any arrests then.
Matavou confirms that the recent case saw another cheque surface for the purchase of equipment, and a report was immediately lodged at the Valelevu Police Station by the company whereby investigators pursued information regarding the involvement of a taxi driver.
Matavou says investigators relentlessly continued to follow some other leads which eventually led to the arrest of the three men yesterday.
He says allegations are that the group had been operating in this manner whereby a taxi would be hired to deliver the envelope containing stolen cheques for exchange of goods without the knowledge of the driver of what was taking place.
Police are requesting members of the public to keep a look out or cross check with the management of Millennium Apparel Ltd if they come across one of their cheques between the numbers 008559 ‑ 008625 that were stolen during the burglary.
The three continue to be questioned at the Valelevu Police Station.
