A three-day pilot course, “Working in an Emergency Operation Centre” organised by the National Disaster Management Office aims to broaden the knowledge of 24 government official participants.
Acting Permanent Secretary for Rural & Maritime Development and National Disaster Management, Loata Vakacegu says government takes its responsibility seriously and that is to be prepared, protect and assist people with their livelihoods.
Vakacegu says this training builds the capacity of their officials to effectively respond and to ensure full recovery from disasters.
She says the course is timely with recent disasters not only in Fiji but the Pacific.
The participants include officials from the NDMO, Military, Police, Health sector, Correctional Services, Transport and Infrastructure, Navy, iTaukei Affairs and Women and social services.
