The second state witness in the rape trial of former police officer Michael Shalendra Pratap revealed in court today that the victim had asked her if it is allowed for police officers to harass children of other police officers.
Pratap is charged with three counts of rape and one count of sexual assault.
Teresia Vakanu who is a civilian staff at a medical clinic in Suva told the court that the victim came to the clinic on 2nd February last year complaining of head and body ache.
Vakanu told the court that she asked the victim what she meant and was told by the 17-year-old girl her that a man had harassed her and would always call her when she went to the shop.
Vakanu then told the court that upon asking, the girl told her that the Police officer had a green car.
Vakanu then revealed in court that the victim said that Michael had pulled her and tied her hands before raping her.
The court was also told by Vakanu that the victim was also threatened by Michael and had told the girl that he will rape her again or do something bad to her if she reported the matter.
During cross examination, defense lawyer Mohammed Yunus asked Vakanu if the victim had mentioned Michael’s name.
Vakanu replied by saying that at first the victim mentioned the green car and later mentioned his name.
The trial continues in the Suva High Court.
