28% of the population live below the poverty line while 48% barely make it out of the poverty line - Gavoka

SODELPA MP, Viliame Gavoka says that 28% of our population live below the poverty line while 48% are just barely making it out of the poverty line, and that is almost 50% of our people.

Gavoka highlighted this during the 2019-2020 National Budget debate.

Gavoka says SODELPA is proposing a minimum wage of $4.00 from the $2.68 the Fiji First has been touting to be sufficient for our people.

Gavoka says Direct Tax is 800 million dollars and Indirect Tax is 2.2 billion dollars and already people are howling since the prices of goods have gone up.

He says the poor in the villages are even made to pay for licenses for any activities they undertake, and that is how desperate the FijiFirst government is.
