A total of 26,038 drivers have been charged for various offences committed on our roads this year.
This compared to 33,109 for the same period last year.
Police Director Traffic SSP Mahesh Mishra says that 384 drivers were charged this year for not wearing seat belts while careless driving charges amounted to 1,049 compared.
He says 875 drivers have been charged for drinking and driving.
Mishra says that 8,692 drivers have been charged for others offences this year.
He adds police are hopeful that their plea will be taken seriously so that no family has to endure the pain of losing a loved one during a time that should be for celebration.
