23 social welfare recipients attend “Start Your Own Business Training Program”
Twenty-three social welfare recipients of Nausori attended a week long training on Start Your Own Business Training Program oragnised by the Ministry of Women, Children and Poverty Alleviation.
A participant Ram Kumari of Nakasi Hart Home said the training has given her new ideas to improve her tailoring business.
The 59-year-old woman said in the training provided by the Ministry two years ago, she had learnt how to sew and now she is able to operate a small tailoring business and look after her 32-year-old daughter who is mentally challenged.
Kumari said her income fluctuates but she is able to earn $60 a week when there are a lot of orders therefore this training has broadened her knowledge to draw up business plans, do budgeting and savings.
Another participant, Michael Danford said the training has built his confidence to start a new business.
Danford who has been disabled for the last five years said after this training, he is determined to start a canteen business to save money for his children’s higher education.
