A 22-year-old farmer of Nanuku Village, Rewa has today pleaded guilty to a charge of arson before High Court Judge, Justice Salesi Temo.
The court was told that Etuate Serevi burnt the house of 54-year-old market vendor, Selina Yabaki in Nakorovou, Rewa on 14th November last year.
Serevi told the court that he carried out this act because he was angry as his cousin had stolen his rugby trousers.
Serevi also told the court that his belongings used to go missing in the village.
Justice Temo then told Serevi that he knows what he must have been feeling as he went through the same in the village setting where things go missing.
But Justice Temo told Serevi that he will have to punish him to send a message to others that they cannot just go and burn people’s houses.
Serevi will be sentenced on the 29th of next month.
