266 confirmed dengue fever cases have been recorded throughout Fiji so far this year.
The Health Ministry said the Macuata subdivision is currently experiencing an outbreak of dengue fever with 205 cases recorded.
According to the Ministry the current Macuata dengue outbreak is caused by the dengue virus serotype 2.
33 dengue fever cases have been recorded in the Western Division while 28 cases have been recorded in the Central Division.
The Ministry of Health and Medical Services is concerned at the high number of cases in Macuata.
The Health Ministry said cleanup campaigns to destroy mosquito breeding grounds have been on going from 2014 and have intensified for this year in Macuata and other affected areas.
The ministry advises the general public to take all precautionary measures to prevent being bitten by mosquitoes, including using mosquito repellant, cleaning their compounds, and destroying all possible mosquito breeding grounds.
