The 22 Fijian women serving in the United Nations Disengagement Observer Force in the Golan Heights have been praised for the effective role which they play in keeping the Golan peninsula safe.
While visiting UNDOF officers at camp Ziouani in Golan, Fiji’s Permanent Representative to the United Nations, Ambassador Peter Thomson says the Fijian servicewomen in UNDOF are paving the way for greater involvement of Fijian women in UN Peacekeeping.
Thomson was also pleased to notice the high morale of the Fijian contingent in the Golan Heights considering the security circumstances in the area.
He says men and women of the Fijian contingent should be proud of the manner in which they are lifting Fiji’s name higher through their exemplary service in Golan.
Fiji is the largest contributor of troops to UNDOF and currently close to 300 Fijian soldiers are deployed in the Golan Heights.
