2156 enumerators are in the field as they gather information for the 2017 Census.
Assistant statistician at the Fiji Bureau of Statistics Meli Nadakuca says they also have 650 supervisors and 150 field officers.
He says the budget for the whole process of census which is inclusive of the preparations is close to $20 million.
Nadakuca says people will be counted to where they spent the night yesterday however the enumerators will also ask people where their usual residence is.
The last population count in 2007 was 837,271.
