2,051 people in Savusavu have today received Micro and Small Business Grants to assist in the purchase of materials to start or expand their businesses.
While officiating at the grant disbursement, Minister for Trade and Tourism Faiyaz Koya highlighted that last year they disbursed grants to 1,766 recipients here in Savusavu.
He says that this brings the total number of entrepreneurs assisted in Savusavu to 4,283 and supporting the livelihood of 21,415 people.
Koya says that in October last year the Ministry for Trade assessed and monitored 768 micro and small business, which were funded through this programme between 2015 and 2017.
He says that these Micro and Small Business Grants recipients contributed $5.7 million towards the Fijian economy and created approximately 200 jobs in Savusavu.
Koya says that the assessment also revealed that 24 micro businesses have graduated to small businesses, while 3 micro businesses graduated to medium enterprises.
