The 2018 Fiji Fashion Week has come to an elaborate end with a cacophony of colors showcased by 12 designers.
Founder Ellen Whippy‑Knight has handed over Fiji Fashion Week baton to Fashion Designers Alliance of Fiji Chairperson Adi Koila Ganilau Lee.
Whippy ‑ Knight says the 2018 Fiji Fashion Week event was not a competition compared to previous years.
She says they took international advise and were told they were the only fashion show that had the designers competing.
Whippy‑Knight says each designer has a unique style and different mind set and they did not want the desingers to compete this year.
She says amongst all the designers , she encourages young designers like Laisiasa Davetawalu and 14 year old Rafa Ganilau Lee to enrol in overseas fashion schools to enhance their abilities and continue designing.
Meanwhile designer Hupfeld Hoerder who had earlier participated in a fashion show in Buckingham Palace, is one of the people who have been chosen by the famous international brand Swarovsky to participate in one of their major fashion shows in October this year.
Hoerder says he is yet to receive the criteria of the fashion show but he is looking forward to it.
He was recognised with an award for his achievement last night.
Earlier 12 schools and 43 designers participated in be schools category. The first prize was awarded to Rishikul Sanatan College, the second prize was awarded to Natabua High and Yet Sen walked away with the third prize.
Whippy ‑Knight has advised young designers to adhere to the criteria, as many could have won but they had not followed the criteria.
