It is unfortunate to note that the report released by Fiji Police Force last month revealed that 70 lives were lost on our roads last year.
This was said by Assistant Minister for Infrastructure and Transport, Vijay Nath during the Annual General Meeting of the Fiji Driving Schools’ Association.
He says this is the highest number of road deaths recorded almost over a decade.
Nath says the role of driving school instructors is very important in setting the basic mind set of safe driving.
He says statistics from Land Transport Authority indicate that motor vehicle registrations have grown significantly in Fiji over the last few years with an average growth of 9% from 2015 to 2016.
Nath also stated the ratio is approximately 1 vehicle to every 8 people.
Meanwhile, Deo Narayan has been chosen as the new National President of the Fiji Driving Schools’ Association, Deo Lingam has been chosen as their Secretary with Maureen Prakash as the new Treasurer.
