Thousands of students and different exhibitors flocked to Syria Park in Nausori this morning to launch the 2014 Agriculture Show.
While launching the three day show this morning, Minister for Youth and Sports Viliame Naupoto said that government through the Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries and Forest strives to enhance food production and income security and achieve quick economic growth and reduce poverty through the sustainable management of Fiji’s natural resources.
Naupoto added that with this year’s theme “Sustainable family farming for food, Nutrition and livelihood security” this is derived from the food and agriculture which recognizes the vital role of family and farming, fisheries and forestry.
He added that government’s strategic development plan is geared towards local production to substitute imports and increase export and more importantly sustaining food security.
Meanwhile the current government five year development plan is to modernize Fiji’s Agricultural Sector and craft the farmers as the most competitive and successful in the region.
The 2014 Agriculture will end this Friday.
