20,000 people from 4,000 homes in selected areas in Suva will be receiving water on alternate days from tomorrow.
CEO of Water Authority of Fiji, Opetaia Ravai said all of Fiji is facing the dry season that is predicted to last through to January next year.
Ravai said on the days people do not receive water from the taps, water will be delivered to them.
The water level at the Tamavua reservoir has gone down by 30 percent and is affecting supply to the 4000 homes in Lami and Delainavesi areas.
Ravai said the alternating water supply will start from 10pm tonight in the following areas:
Tamavua-i-wai, Wailoku, upper Delainavesi, Nadonumai, Lami village, Suvavou Village and Vugalei while people living in Kalekana settlement, Wailekutu, Uduya Point, Namuka-i-lau, Bilo, old Queens Road, Vesari, Waqanake, Beni Naiveli, Wainigasau, Monfort Boys Town, Togalevu Naval Base, Upper Lami and Qauia settlement will be carted the water.
Ravai added that they will soon install three desalination plants in Taveuni that will provide sufficient water to the island.
The installation is expected to finish in October.
Ravai stressed that the wise water usage is not just words but the way we must all begin to adjust how to use this precious resource.
