The Fiji Sugar Corporation purchased 20 water tankers so that crop can be irrigated in dry spells.
This was highlighted by Tui Macuata, Ratu Wiliame Katonivere while speaking at the opening of the Labasa Mill for the 2018 season.
He says last year the Labasa Mill had a few challenges especially with its Shredder which has been fixed, adding about $7 million has been spent in the last off-season in capex and maintenance to ensure that the mill performs much better than last year.
Ratu Wiliame Katonivere, who is also a board member of FSC says the Labasa Mill contributes around 44% of total sugar tonnage.
He adds they also have 35 new tractors with implements for land preparation and planting cane and they also have 60 mechanical harvesters.
FSC CEO, Graham Clarke says they are expecting a big performance from the Labasa Mill.
