Twenty people who were found littering in Suva City have been fined $40 by the Suva City Council this year.

Chief Executive Officer Bijay Chand said they have four cases out of the 16 that is before the court.

Chand said two have been found guilty of littering and have been fined $148 each while the other two cases are still pending.

Chand said people are given 21 days notice to pay their fine.

Meanwhile, the Council’s Administrator Chandu Umaria said the Council is working with TOTAL, Bank of the South Pacific and WESTPAC in distributing garbage bags to motorists.

Umaria said when people drive in to fill up at any TOTAL service station, they will be handed a garbage bag where members of the vehicle can throw their rubbish in.

Umaria said the project is expected to lessen the amount of littering in the city.
