18 workers from Levuka and two from Vanua Levu have left our shores to work for Bostok New Zealand Limited under the Recognised Seasonal Employer Worker Scheme.
The 20 workers were happy and excited to have been selected for seasonal work employment opportunities.
Bostok New Zealand has been recruiting from Fiji since 2015 and despite the negative image portrayed by some Fijian workers in 2016 and 2017, the employer is still willing to employ Fijians, hence the selection of the group.
Team leader, Sitiveni Sovaki Waqawai acknowledged the employer, Bostok New Zealand, the ‘vanua’ and the Fijian Government for providing the opportunity to work under the Recognised Seasonal Employer Worker Scheme.
Waqaiwai highlighted that the workers are also grateful to the National Employment Centre staff in preparing them for what is ahead of them.
The Turaga na Tui Levuka Ratu Etonia Seru encouraged the 20 selected seasonal workers to do well adding that their performance will somehow affect their group, family, village, Tikina and the ‘vanua’ as a whole.
He urged the young people to perform their work to the best of their ability as this will also allow others who have not participated to experience the same and reap its benefits.
