20 Fijian families that were affected by the wildfires in California are still living in evacuation centres while 4 Fijian families have lost their homes from the wildfire.
The Fijian Embassy in Washinton has confirmed that the majority of the Fijian Community living in Santa Rosa, California have been evacuated and are now in churches.
According to residents, most are staying at the Montgomery Church and Petaluma Community Centre.
Fiji’s Ambassador to the United States, Solo Mara says Fijians were safe and confirmed that his office had not received any news of any casualties.
The Embassy says that the power outage in the area has affected the Fiji Embassy's efforts to ascertain reports on Fijians living in the affected areas.
The priority of the Embassy is to continue to appeal to the greater Fijian community to keep a lookout on Fijian families adversely affected by the fires and to assist where needed.
The Embassy has also encouraged Fijians to come forward with information about Fijians living in the affected areas.
