2 former Judiciary Officers appear in court charged with corruption

Two former Judiciary Officers appeared in the Ba Magistrates Court today after charged by FICAC separately with corruption-related offences.

Saleshni Lata and Yogendran appeared before Magistrate Samuela Qica.

Lata is charged with a count each of obtaining a gain and falsification of documents.

It is alleged that in April 2017, Lata, while being employed as an Assistant Court Officer/Revenue Collector at the Rakiraki Magistrates Court falsified receipts of the Judicial Trust Fund and the Maintenance Payment Card, and as a result obtained a gain of $100 from the Judicial Department.

Yogendran is charged with a count each of general dishonesty – Obtaining a gain” and count of “falsification of documents”.

It is alleged that in February 2017, Yogendran while being employed as the Assistant Court Officer at the Rakiraki Magistrates Court falsified documents with the intention of dishonestly obtaining a gain of $50.

Both have been released on bail and the matter has been adjourned to the 20th of February next year.
