Two former employees of the Fiji Revenue and Customs Authority have been charged with abuse of office by the Criminal Investigations Department in relation to a $31,000 pay out to Mahendra Pal Chaudhry.
The former manager taxation Vimal Krishna and Head of Amendments and Correspondence Unit Agesh Prakash have been charged with two counts of abuse of office.
It is alleged that on 29th July 2009, Krishna directed Agesh Prakash to allow a loss in the amount of $808,436.09, which resulted in the pay out to Mahendra Chaudhry in the amount of $31,593.41.
It is alleged that Prakash made unauthorised amendments to the tax return of Mahendra Chaudhry allowing a loss which resulted in a pay out in the amount of $31,593.41 to Chaudhry.
The two have been released on bail by the Suva Magistrates Court on strict bail conditions.
The matter has been adjourned to 30th July.
