An 18-year-old of Lautoka who was convicted of two counts of child rape has been sentenced to seven years imprisonment by the Lautoka High Court.
The offence first happened in March and also on the 5th of December, 2011 when the accused was staying at the house of his cousin and her daughter who was 4years old.
The court heard that at around 6pm that afternoon, the mother of the 4-year-old was outside raking leaves and the accused was looking after the girl and her brother, at the time of the incident.
Judge Paul Madigan said that the aggravating factor in this case is that the accused, prior to the second incident had been sniffing glue.
He will serve a minimum of five years before being eligible for parole.
