1,750 Primary and Secondary students in the maritime zones who have to cross rivers or travel from one island to another have been assisted by the Ministry of Education to get to school on a daily basis.
This is after a member of Parliament, Alexander O'Connor asked the Minister, Dr. Mahendra Reddy to provide details of schools that have been assisted with provision and for those who have to cross rivers or travel from one island to another.
Reddy says 21 schools have been assisted last year and 17 schools have been assisted this year with fibre glass boats.
He says through these initiatives, students and teachers are able to cross rivers to get to school and ease transportation for students travelling from main land to an island for education.
