The Ministry of Health has revealed that 173 women were diagnosed with breast cancer last year.
Oncology/Radiation Projects Coordinator, Christopher Bates said that 60 percent of cancer surgeries in 2013 were only for breast cancer.
Bates also said the complete removal of an infected breast is a common way to treat breast cancer in Fiji.
According to the Ministry of Health, 225 breast cancer cases were recorded in 2012, 181 in 2013 and 248 in 2014.
Meanwhile, more than two dozens of Prosthetic Breasts have been brought into Fiji to assist those who suffer from breast cancer.
An Australian company Lily Blissful and the Australian Breast Cancer Society provided the prosthetic breasts.
The free prosthetic breast cancer assistance will be provided in the CWM Hospital today.
They will assist women in the Labasa Hospital tomorrow and Thursday.
