Every year about 17,000 graduates leave tertiary institutes and schools, but there are about 600 jobs available.
This was revealed by the CEO of the Fiji Commerce and Employers Federation Nesbitt Hazelman at the Speaker's Debate held at the Grand Pacific Hotel.
Hazelman says to provide more jobs the economy needs to grow by about 5% every year.
He says a lot more has to be done in other sectors so jobs can be created.
Hazelman says the IT sector and data collection technologies need improvement.
He says the country needs to attract the right type of investment and trade unions, the government and employers need to work together.
