16 people from Ra charged with sedition and inciting communal antagonism have pleaded not guilty in the Lautoka High Court.
Ratu Epeli Niudamu, Sailasa Malani, Sereima Rokodi, Nanise Nagusuca, Waisea Duailima, Isikeli Kabakoro, Laisiasa Mocevakaca, Emosi Toga, Waisake Racaca, Samuela Ligabalavu, Mikaele Gonerara, Seini Raiko, Josefa Natau, Sulueti Lotu Waqalala, Ulaiyasi Rabua Tuivomo, Apolosi Qalilawa, and Ilisapeci Natau were all present in court with their lawyers.
The Defence Counsel wanted a trial date but the court stated that there are some preliminary issues which have to be solved before the date is set.
It is alleged these people attempted to form a Christian State in Ra.
The case has been adjourned to the 22nd of this month.
Their bail has been extended.
Meanwhile, five people allegedly involved in the para-military style training up in the hills of Ra appeared in the Lautoka High Court today.
Apimeleki Wailomo and Josua Navaluvou are charged with sedition and urging political violence while Timoci Nagata, Pita Vakatawa and Saimoni Nacolawa are charged with sedition and inciting communal antagonism.
All have been remanded in custody except Saimoni Nacolawa.
Nacolawa has been granted bail under strict conditions.
The case is adjourned to the 15th of this month for mention.
