150,000 Fijians now have the immeasurable benefit of access to clean drinking water.
This was highlighted by Prime Minister Voreqe Bainimarama while officially opening the Natadradave Water Project in Dawasamu in Tailevu.
Bainimarama also revealed that he has opened several water projects throughout the country in recent weeks adding that access to clean water is more than a building block of development, it is the rock‑solid foundation upon which a community can grow and prosper.
Bainimarama says as Prime Minster, he is focused on the tens of thousands of Fijians in rural pockets of Fiji who now know the feeling of joy and security brought by seeing clean water run when they switch on the tap and he is not focused on the mud‑slinging they see from politicians in Fiji today.
He stressed he is not focused on the personal attacks or the politicking adding that he is not focused on dividing Fijians up along ethnic or religious lines as he has kept his focus on development from the very beginning, that is making real improvements in the lives of our people.
Bainimarama also highlighted that every Fijian deserves to live with the security and happiness that only clean water can provide; and no family should wake up wondering where the water they need will come from.
He says that it is a known fact that it is often Fijian women who bear the brunt of labour in providing clean water for their families and communities.
Bainimarama says that the opening of the Natadradave Water Project is a victory for every member of the community and it is a special victory for the women of Natadradave, and for their children as well, who can now grow up with the comfort of reliable access to clean water.
