Close to 150 permanent workers who were at the Penang Sugar Mill have been deployed to the Lautoka and Rarawai Sugar Mills.
Fiji Sugar Corporation CEO Abdul Khan says that these workers were affected after the Penang Sugar Mill closed down.
Khan says it is their priority to look after their workers.
He says that we all should realise that this is an abnormal year but when it comes to its workers welfare, the FSC is always there to assist them.
Meanwhile, the CEO also says that close to 1.5 million tonnes of sugar cane is expected to be harvested around Fiji this year.
Khan says 170,000 tonnes of sugar will be produced this year.
He says that the total crop is lower than last year because of the damage caused by Cyclone Winston.
According to Khan, last year just over 221,000 tonnes of sugar was produced from 1.85 million tonnes of sugar cane.
