Shawntell Lockington of Xavier College with the golden jump in the Junior Girls High Jump.

A 15-year-old record was broken yesterday in the Junior Girls Javelin event. 

Katarina Lilicama of Napuka Secondary School from Taveuni set a new record of 43.97 metres to win gold. 

The previous record was held by Maria Tawake of Nabala High School. 

Lilicama also won bronze in the Junior Girls Discus event.

Niusawa Rawaisau of Delana Methodist High School won the Senior Boys Shot Put.

“This medal is dedicated to my late mother.”

Those were the comments shared by Jasper athlete, Sesenieli Donu who won gold in the Senior Girls Long Jump last night.

Speaking to Fijivillage, Donu said her mother passed away last year and this would have been the perfect mother’s day gift.

Looking at last night’s events in the 100 metres heats:

Queen Victoria School sprinter Ilaitia Waqa has qualified for the Senior Boys 100 metres final clocking the fastest time during the heats last night. 

Waqa clocked a manual time of 10.98 seconds during his heat. 

Sanaila Simeli of Saint Thomas High School clocked the second fastest time.

Marist Brothers High School sprinter Albert Miller Junior who was in the same heat, finished third.

Miller has not qualified for the 100 metres final today.

The Senior Boys 100 metres finals is scheduled at 5.04pm today.

The official qualifiers for the 100 metres Senior Boys final will be confirmed later this morning. 

 

Keasi Naidroka of Marist has qualified for the 100 metres Intermediate Boys final and clocked the fastest manual time of 10.78 seconds.

Saint Joseph’s Secondary School athlete, Heleina Young cruised through her 100 metres Junior Girls heat.

Young who finished the race in a manual time of 13.17 seconds is looking forward to the final.

She will face stiff competition from Jasper athlete, Salote Baravilala who clocked a manual time of 12.84 seconds in her heat.

She says today’s final will be a good one.

Alaiwalu Rayawa of ACS is the favorite to win the Senior Girls 100 metres final tonight. 

The 100 metres finals will start at about 4.40 this afternoon.

In the 400 metres, 

The favourites are Meresiana Vukici from Jasper in the Senior Girls grade, Saula Nodrakoro of RKS in the Senior Boys, Shane Tuvusa from Marist and Apolosi Koroi of QVS in the Intermediate Boys, Joseva Tabakaucoro of Marist and Osea Baleinamau of QVS in the Junior Boys and Lusiana Ratulevu of Jasper in the Junior Girls.

Senior Girl’s favourite Meresiana Vukici said she is determined to win gold tonight.
