13 families who are squatting on the Nasinu Land Purchase and Housing Co‑operative Limited land in stage 10 Laqere, Nasinu are refusing to be relocated to another piece of land.
Land Purchase Unit Cooperative CEO Muni Deo says ten families have been relocated because their houses were on the land where they are constructing a road.
Deo says some squatters living along their land are refusing to move and the matter is now with the court.
He says some squatters are claiming that it is their ancestral land.
Deo says the Cooperative is offering the squatters pieces of land in Veresi settlement in Nadawa for resettlement.
This has been offered to the government with the submission made that this land will be used to resettle the people living on their land.
Deo says 15 households have moved to their allocated land lots and have started to rebuild their homes.
He says they plan to develop the 10 acre land where the current squatter settlement is located.
150 residential and six commercial lots will be developed at the site.
Deo says this land is located close to the United Apparel Garment Factory in Nadawa and the planned development will cost $2.5 million.
