The Ministry of Education has received 119 disciplinary cases against teachers during the first four months of this year.
This was highlighted by the Education Minister, Dr Mahendra Reddy at the Fiji Principals Association Conference today.
Dr Reddy said some of these cases are unprofessional conduct, mismanagement of funds, inflicting corporal punishment, extra-marital affairs, act of carelessness, abuse of office, absenteeism, verbal sexual harassment and sexual relationship.
He said while most of the principals are trying their best to deliver the vision and mission of the Ministry of Education, some of them are failing in their responsibilities as school heads.
Dr Reddy said this is reflected in the increasing number of complaints and cases being referred to their offices daily.
Dr Reddy said this is a serious concern for the school heads and the Ministry, as the teachers are supposed to be the role models for the students.
