11 people escapes injury after bus catches fire

Eleven people escaped major injuries after the bus they were travelling in caught fire opposite the Courts Fiji Limited shop in Samabula this afternoon.

Police Spokesperson Josaia Weicavu said the bus was driven by a 41-year-old which was on its way to Suva with ten passengers when the incident happened.

Weicavu said no one was injured as the passengers were cleared by the Police at the scene.

Chief Fire Officer Qionilau Mocetai said they received a call at 2.20pm today.

Mocetai said they managed to prevent the fire from spreading to nearby buildings however a building next to the bus sustained minor damage.

The National Fire Authority and Police Forensic Staff will be inspecting the bus to determine the cause of fire.
