A 10-year-old girl who was allegedly raped by her uncle in Beqa in 2015, had written letters to express what her uncle had done to her.
This was revealed by the aunt who gave evidence in court today.
The 37-year old-uncle is charged with three counts of rape and one count of sexual assault.
The aunt told the court that the 10-year-old girl’s parents had passed away and she has been looking after her for the past three years and considers the girl her own daughter.
She revealed to the court that on the morning of 4th March 2016 in Nadi when she was cleaning the girl’s room, she found pieces of paper under her mattress and thought to herself how can a 10-year-old write such things.
The aunt told the court that on a Saturday when the girl was home she called her to her room and asked her about the letters.
State lawyer Lavenia Bogitini then asked the aunt what the girl had said to which the aunt said that the girl started crying and then the girl said that when she was in her village in Beqa her uncle had raped her.
The aunt is currently being cross examined in the Suva High Court before Judge Justice Riyaz Hamza.
