10,000 Fijians have been directly assisted with the Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises grants to date which has benefitted over 50,000 Fijians.
Prime Minister Voreqe Bainimarama handed over the $1,000 grants to Nadi and Lautoka recipients yesterday.
Bainimarama says the scheme has laid a foundation for an enterprising culture that will bring benefits for the future generations.
He says it has also helped Fijians move into the formal financial sector.
The Prime Minister says as these businesses grow, jobs are created and ordinary Fijians are given more opportunities to learn new skills and develop invaluable expertise in business and that is a proven pathway to combating poverty and improving the standard of living for people.
