A 1-year-old child and a 29-year-old woman are believed to have drowned in two separate incidents in the past week.
Police say in the first case the 1-year-old victim had accompanied his father to their farm and while tending to their sheep the child had allegedly wandered off and he was later found floating in a fish pond.
They say the incident happened in Votualevu.
In the second incident, a 29-year-old woman was found near the Wainimala River in Naitasiri.
Police say the victim was from Gusuniwai Settlement and was last seen leaving her home to bathe in the nearby river.
They say when she failed to return, a search was conducted whereby she was found lying motionless nearby.
Police adds that health officials have confirmed that the victim is a known epileptic patient however a post mortem will be conducted to confirm the cause of death.
The drowning death toll currently stands at 9 compared to 9 for the same period last year.
