The Chairman of the Fiji Sports Commission, Peter Mazey says that the sporting federations have requested for about $62 million in the 2019/2020 National Budget.

Speaking on the Commission’s budget request, Mazey says that they hope that the 2019/2020 National Budget will look after our Olympics 7s gold medalists.

Mazey says they have already allocated approximately $1.6 million as a preparation budget for the 2019 Rugby World Cup.

He says they will be allocating the participation budget for the World Cup in the 2019/2020 National Budget.

The 2019 Rugby World Cup will be held in Japan from September to November where Fiji is pooled with Australia, Wales, Uruguay and Georgia.

Mazey also highlighted that the national sporting bodies have also put in their request for grants in this budget from February this year.

Mazey says they are looking more towards hosting of sporting events and sports development from overseas to train locals.

Minister for Economy, Aiyaz Sayed-Khaiyum will deliver the 2019/2020 National Budget address at 7.30pm this Friday.
