SODELPA MP Aseri Radrodro has called for the sacking of the Land Transport Authority Chairman Vijay Maharaj and the whole LTA board.
Radrodro has made the call after LTA fined 13 people for travelling in buses without valid E-ticketing receipts and failure to pay fares.
Radrodro says it is not indicated on the card that passengers must keep their bus tickets.
He says people are barely used to the new system and are being fined for not having tickets with them.
Radrodro says it is leaders like Maharaj who give institutions a bad name and he is calling on the government to review and change the board of the LTA as soon as possible to avoid further senseless victimization of the general public by illogical and irresponsible policy implementation.
LTA Chairman Vijay Maharaj says Radrodro being a former Acting CEO of LTA must appreciate that the Authority is carrying out its regulatory functions.
Maharaj says the comments from Radrodro is calling for the LTA Board to deviate from and negate from its defined statutory and regulatory roles.
He says if such views of Radrodro were allowed to translate into practice, then he can confidently say that this is the level the current LTA Board and its members are trying to move away from and avoid the old habits that were common past practice.
Maharaj says if the e‑ticketing machines are working in buses and passengers can use their e‑ticketing cards, then it's unfair given that some bus passengers are not complying with the e‑ticketing laws.
He says the transport sector is making progress in Fiji for the bus industry and the efforts to modernize its services, starting from e‑ticketing as a means from cash to cashless system, but its sad that Radrodro being previously involved in the transport industry with LTA in a senior position does not share a similar vision for the betterment of all Fijians.
